These Kokeshi mini glass bead dolls are made by following a traditional art/craft form of wood turning known throughout Northern Japan. They are traditionally made to honor a special child in one's family.
Kazumi Svenson's sculptures are inspired by early Phoenician and ancient Chinese "Tombodama" techniques of masking one color over another to create surface design in a painterly fashion. These bead sculptures are laboriously created over a flameworking torch using Italian and German colored rods.
