Museum of Neon Art

Regular price $ 0.00

Join the Museum of Neon Art community on Saturday, November 7th from 4pm to 7pm to celebrate the opening of Wonder Lanes: The Signs and Style of Mid-century Bowling.

Join us as we open this exciting exhibition exploring the iconic signs, distinctive style, and nostalgic spirit of mid-century bowling lanes. Curated by Steve Spiegel, Kathy Kikkert, and Chris Nichols, and executive produced by Connie Conway, with Mark Panelli and John English as creative collaborators.

Wonder Lanes shares the radical ways design, invention, and community converged to forge a new kind of third space, where fun was something that all people could share. Women, children, and people of color were active participants and contributors in the neon-bathed bowling centers of postwar Southern California. The space-age optimism of the bowling alley is captured through iconic neon signage from MONA’s collection, items provided by Disney Imagineering, as well as mid-century ephemera from collectors across the country. The exhibition will also feature a short documentary featuring interviews with preservationists, patrons of the bowling centers, sign professionals, designers, and historians.

This event is free and open to the public, with a suggested donation of $25 to support the museum and future programming.
