Making neon is working with the raw materials of space to form contained and luminous, subatomic interactions. In Stellar Neon: Stars, students will work with clear glass, a bending pattern, and a simple step-by-step guide to bend pointed stars out of 180° bends in the Electric Lab. Then we will watch our stars glow to life via the bombarding process. Learn about neon by making your own celestial wonder. No prior experience with neon bending is required.

Kacie Lees (b. 1986 — St. Louis, Missouri, she/her) is a teaching artist whose prismatic body of work examines themes of identity, environment, and access. Drawing from somatics, gestalt, and the sublime, Lees’ radical pedagogy often takes form as neon, holography, video, or print. Splitting her time between Brooklyn and Chicago, Lees teaches the craft of neon bending at both New York University and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She envisions a world where the power of light amplifies our humanity and expands the discourses of aesthetics, gender, and culture.
