Have you ever wanted to own part of history and or LA lore, or simply have the glow of neon in your home? Do you like to be a lookie-loo at swap meets? Wanna see cars and motorcycles from the early 1900's? Would you want to hear behind the scenes tales of neon, punk, and Los Angeles?

The Museum of Neon Art has an event for you! MONA is proud to announce the first ever Neon Garage Sale. Master sign restorer Paul Greenstein is donating his neon tubes and letting folks have a rare glimpse into his studio to raise funds for the museum. This fundraiser gives the public an opportunity to add light into their lives while keeping neon signs in Los Angeles and the museum lit.

This sale will feature working neon fragments from historian, neon craftsperson, and Los Angeles legend Paul Greenstein’s studio. The tubes include fragments of signage from the Riverside Market, Castle Argyle, House of Spirits, and Cole’s. Neon shapes include a moon, a  face, straight and angle tubes, odds and ends letters, and three big and brilliant letter crackle tubes.

Paul is a neon practitioner, restorer of signs, cars, radios, jukeboxes, and all things broken. He was a catalyst of the 1970s punk scene in Los Angeles from Madame Wongs to the Atomic Cafe, and is woven through many eras of Los Angeles' distant and more recent past. He also founded Millie's cafe in Silverlake. Paul created some of the iconic signs that lit up Melrose in the 1970's and has helped to illuminate icons like the Hotel Californian, Castle Argyle, Earl Carroll Theatre, Adohr Milk Farm, Larry’s Chili Dog and more!

Visitors will get to meet Paul (a prince), hear the fascinating history behind each tube and brainstorm or hear from him the best practices to display the tubes on offer, or even hire him to get the tubes ready for display.  Transformers and insulators will be for sale to complete your project/purchase.

Among Paul's neon projects is the maintenance of LA icon Philippe’s the Original. They have donated more than 30 of their retired beer signs to add to the sale “Come get a piece of beloved Los Angeles history!”
