"Memphis" Neon Two Day Class 3/15-3/16

Museum of Neon Art

Regular price $ 675.00

Less is Bore! The Memphis art style is a bold and retro aesthetic that challenges brutalism and post-war architecture, interiors, and product design. Sometimes described as kitschy or funky, Memphis highlights the streamlined geometry of art deco design and the electric colors of day-to-day objects, characterized by bright colors, geometric shapes, strong patterns, stripes, clashing hues, and abstract designs. In this class, you will be bending glass over fire to create whimsical, luminescent shapes that will be mounted and attached to colorful backgrounds. Join Dani Bonnet in this fun and retro class, to create your own Memphis style work of art!

In this 2-day beginner workshop, participants will create a complete work of art to take home, complete with mounting and transformer.

Saturday & Sunday, March 15th-16th 10am-5pm

Instructor: Dani Bonnet
Dani Bonnet’s neon roots began in Las Vegas, where her grandparents ran a commercial neon repair shop, which employed both her father and uncle. Growing up, she was trained to spot neon signs that needed repair. She studied Biochemistry and graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 2015. Immediately after, she moved to Los Angeles for a cosmetic laboratory position. She rediscovered her love of neon signage by driving through the streets of LA late at night. She became consumed with the thought of how neon signs were made and decided to seek out learning the craft. She received a tool box containing the remainder of her grandparent’s old neon bending equipment and started an apprenticeship under Juan Ortega. Dani has exhibited her work at The Hollywood Palladium, Innerspace Gallery, and The Museum of Neon Art. Her work has been featured by Vans, in a Rich The Kid music video, and during live performances by Kaytranada, Luis The Child, and Sudan Archives.
