Neon Noir Book by Tom Zimmerman

Catalog from the "Neon Noir" photography exhibit by Tom Zimmerman.

Excerpt: “Neon began to lose out to plastic in the 1950s along with Los Angeles’ reputation as a paradisiacal outdoor health spa. At the same time, the city’s air, traffic and crowding got radically worse and the truck farms, Pacific Electric and LARY trolley cars disappeared. The glowing surface so lustily celebrated by the boosters was tarnishing fast. A half-century down the line and the noir sensibility has taken root. The old broken neon signs hanging on their closed buildings remind us that everything is transitional."
