The exhibition of paintings in this book sees Coles capturing the gaudy neon-splashed nightlife of Bangkok through an expressionistic painting style. He said that he took the expressionist style from the German Expressionists who painted Berlin nightlife in the 1920's and 1930's and applied it to the unique sprawling spectacle of the of the Bangkok night.
After working in the movie business in the early 1990's, Cole moved to Thailand and pursued painting in the 2000's.
