Sharpen Your Bending Skills: Neon Knives with Dani Bonnet 10/30/2022
From swashbuckling fantasy to horror films, to the airy tarot suit, blade imagery has fascinated and frightened for centuries. Whether you are a master in the kitchen, want a statement piece for your wall, or wish to cultivate a relationship with concepts frequently associated with the blade like truth, clearity, communication, or intellect, you’ll walk away from the class with an unforgettable experience and work of art. Neon artist Dani Bonnet and her assistants will teach students the basics of neon bending and pattern work so that they can create their own handmade neon dagger or sword. Open to all experience levels, students will leave with a completed work of art they created.
Instructor: Dani Bonnet
Dani Bonnet’s neon roots began in Las Vegas, where her grandparents ran a commercial neon repair shop, which employed both her father and uncle. Growing up, she was trained to spot neon signs that needed repair. She studied Biochemistry and graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 2015. Immediately after, she moved to Los Angeles for a cosmetic laboratory position. She rediscovered her love of neon signage by driving through the streets of LA late at night. She became consumed with the thought of how neon signs were made and decided to seek out learning the craft. She received a tool box containing the remainder of her grandparent’s old neon bending equipment and started an apprenticeship under Juan Ortega. Dani has exhibited her work at The Hollywood Palladium, Innerspace Gallery, and The Museum of Neon Art. Her work has been featured by Vans, in a Rich The Kid music video, and during live performances by Kaytranada, Luis The Child, and Sudan Archives.
