Love, Lust, Neon! Heart-Making Workshop 2/17/2023
Fall in love with neon! Bend your own heart-shaped neon piece (with assistance from instructor Kacie Lees) and then watch your heart come to life. Students will follow along with an illustrated guide (which visually breaks down each step in the bending process into key moves), work with a bending pattern, and get in the fire to form a unique piece. This four-hour immersive experience will not only teach you the basics of neon, you'll get to leave with a glowing neon heart, shaped by your very own hands. Students will also enjoy a celebratory glass of wine for neon bends well done. Couples or platonic life partners encouraged! Please purchase 1 ticket for each person in your group.
Instructor: Kacie Lees (b. 1986 — St. Louis, Missouri, she/her) is a New York-based conceptual artist and lecturer at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Lees’ radical pedagogy often materializes into forms such as thermochromatic wearables, instructional videos, and handmade tools. Her seminal technical manual, ‘Neon Primer: A Handbook on Light Construction’ (2021) assesses the psycho-historical impact of advertising on neon and illuminates the hidden nature of light via the craft of neon bending.
