"What Remains - A Highland Park Walking Tour"
Sunday, June 11, 2023, 1:00pm - 2:30pm

Join MONA Educator and Researcher Maya Abee for What Remains: A Highland Park History Walking Tour. The group will embark on a 1 hour history walk covering 5 blocks of Highland Park, one of LA’s first suburbs. This tour explores Highland Park as a shifting ecosystem, a site of gentrification, revitalization, and historic preservation. Walk along 0.6 miles of Figueroa St., a Los Angeles arterial, and one of the economic centers of Highland Park. Together we’ll engage with  century-old buildings disguised by contemporary architectural elements, repurposed signage and holes-in-the-wall that provide portholes to the past.

Maya Abee has been an educator and researcher at MONA since starting as an intern in 2020. Her work at MONA includes in depth research of collections and Los Angeles signage as well as walking tours of West Hollywood’s Santa Monica Blvd and the Sunset Strip.
