Neon Sign Restoration Workshop

In this workshop, students will be guided through the step-by-step process of the complete restoration of a neon sign from MONA's collection. Discussions will cover the various options, limitations and challenges when restoring a sign. Students will see first-hand the inner workings of a neon sign and why it's important to have a historical understanding of them.

Instructor: Paul Greenstein has been designing neon signs in LA since the late '70s including the iconic Melrose signs for Flip, Vinyl Fetish, Cowboys & Poodles, and Wacko. More recently, his designs helped usher in the new neon renaissance in Downtown LA, with The Broadway Bar and Seven Grand. He has also become an expert sign restorer for signs in private collections as well as large rooftop signs such as the Castle Argyle in Hollywood and, most recently, The Hotel Californian near downtown LA.
